The CBI sees the recovery in the UK economy staying on track, but warned it will be protracted as urgent action is taken to reduce the budget deficit.

The CBI today commented on the announcement by George Osborne, the Chancellor, that the Government plans to save £6.2bn in 2010-11.

CBI President Helen Alexander CBE has announced that Stephen Green, Group Chairman of HSBC Holding, has been nominated for appointment as Deputy President of the CBI.

The recovery in the UK economy is expected to remain sluggish during 2010, and will not pick up much pace until the middle of next year, the CBI said today.

Urgent steps must be taken to raise public sector productivity to help rebalance the public finances, according to the CBI.

Richard Lambert, CBI Director-General, yesterday outlined his views on the recent comments by Lord Turner concerning proposals for a “Tobin tax” and other financial issues.
