Businesses are risking prosecution and a fine of up to £1,000 if staff are watching telly at work without the correct licence.
If staff watch or record TV as it is broadcast on the premises the business may be liable whether it is aware it’s happening or not. And it’s not just televisions that need to be considered – any computer with a broadband connection could potentially be used to access television because many TV channels are now available to watch live online. A TV Licence is legally required to view live broadcasts regardless of the equipment used.
TV Licensing has warned business it takes evasion seriously and has announced that its businesses team will be visiting unlicensed premises throughout the Christmas period.
