Osborne slams bargaining bosses.

Shadow Chancellor George Osborne has called on BBC bosses to embrace the proposed move of several of its departments to Manchester rather than using the move as a form of bargaining chip in its ongoing licence fee negotiations with the Government.

Speaking at a recent event held by the Forum of Private Business, the Tory MP for Knutsford said that the relocation of BBC Departments such as Sports, Children’s TV and Radio Five Live “would be good for the BBC and for Greater Manchester”.

“I’m absolutely certain that they need to move to Salford, and the idea that they are using this as a card in their negotiations over the licence fee is totally unacceptable,” he said.

“We have a very London-centric media and political world, and if large parts of the BBC were reporting on the country from the North West it would give them a different perspective.”
