Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (CfEL), University of Cambridge

The Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (CfEL), part of Judge Business School at the University of Cambridge, aims to spread the spirit of enterprise through the creation and delivery of educational activities that inspire and build skills in the practice of entrepreneurship. One of CfEL's key teaching values is that the best people to teach entrepreneurs are entrepreneurs. The Centre collaborates with a network of over 300 experienced entrepreneurs, innovators and other practitioners to provide relevant, credible and practical training.

The Centre has developed an enviable track record in the field of entrepreneurship education with a number of flagship programmes including:

Enterprise Tuesday

This is a series of free evening lectures and networking sessions run from October to February in Cambridge each year. The aim is to inspire individuals to pursue entrepreneurial ambitions, inform about basic business skills and enable networking between academic and business communities.

Advanced Diploma in Entrepreneurship
This is a part-time programme which provides entrepreneurial individuals with the opportunity to gain a recognised qualification at the same time as being actively supported in the pursuit of a business venture whether this is a technology, creative or social enterprise.
Enterprisers
Enterpriser is 4 day educational experience that inspires people to develop entrepreneurial skills and a ‘can do’ attitude with the confidence to make things happen.
Ignite
Ignite is an intensive, annual, one-week training programme for aspiring entrepreneurs and corporate innovators to trial and prepare technology-based business ideas or innovations for the commercial environment in order to increase the chances of success.

Research:
CfEL is conducting further research in order to develop state of the art understanding of entrepreneurship education. Collaborative research projects include "Entrepreneurs - Born or Made" with Professor Barbara Sahakian at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Cambridge.

Resources for entrepreneurs:
CfEL has developed a number of resources and tools aimed at delegates of our entrepreneurship programmes including videos and podcasts, advice on networking and sources of start-up support.

Frank McKenna has never exactly been shy about being the public face of the Downtown in Business brand, which he founded in Liverpool in 2004 and now boasts operations in Preston and Manchester (the latter launched earlier this year). His weekly, “Thank Frank it’s Friday” email missives, “Frankie Says” blog and Tarantino-inspired advertisements are cases in point.
